About the architect
Dr. Pierre Cuypers (1827-1921), Roermond’s most famous son, is considered the grand master of neo-Gothic art and was Chief Government Architect around the turn of the last century. There is undoubtedly a building in your area owned by this old master. World-famous are Amsterdam Central Station, the Rijksmuseum and Kasteel de Haar. He has built and rebuilt many buildings, including more than a hundred churches, in the Netherlands and abroad. Often he also took care of the entire interior of these buildings. He even made garments and designed cutlery to match the interior. Thus, according to current standards, he was a great designer and belongs on many buildings in the Netherlands the stamp “made in Roermond”.
